The road not taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Here's a cool bit of personal history: Robert Frost was a friend of my grandparents in New Hampshire when my grandfather was a professor of religion at Dartmouth College. According to my Dad (who was quite young at the time) Frost would read poetry to the guests at the house each year on Christmas Eve. At the end of the evening he would give all the guests a gift - a small book of poems he had written specifically for that night. He would always write a brief note inside the books to each person about how much he had enjoyed the evening. They're pretty cool to see after all these years later - especially reading his handwritten notes on the back of each front cover.
My Dad still has some of those "Christmas Eve books" from my grandparent's old house but I think his favorite Robert Frost poem is the one posted above.
