I have experienced a slowdown in my computer performance in the past two weeks. I have a 10 Mb dl/2 Mb ul connection. I have a 3.0 Ghz Intel, 4 GB RAM, and I am experiencing stuttering in all audio applications if anything is running in the background. I cannot think of anything I have installed that could have caused this. Does anyone have a suggestion for a prog that would help me figure this out? Thanks, n00bsters, and I'm very sorry about the Yankees. Or maybe not ... lol

Download and run Process Explorer (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html) (freeware) a very small prog that will show all processes running on your rig. Start with that, see if there is anything that should'nt be there.

Oh, and make sure you have the latest drivers for your audio device.

format C: ...... should deffo clear it all up !! :D

or Check processes like hyper said...and if that fails.......

since its audio problems then try reinstalling sound card drivers (if u got them fancy soundcards)

Somethings interfering with sound card functions......remember what was the last app u installed before this problem creeped up and remove it and see or do a system restore b4 that date.....

Also, how much space u got left in C: .....once my space reduced all the way to a GB and I started having all kinds of probs......but that should'nt happen to ya with 4 GB ram....hmmm.....

also check to see what your cpu is actually rated as by windows.
right click my computer, properties.
I've seen computers being clocked much lower than their actual speed to due to conflicts with drivers mobo issues, etc.

Also check heat in the case. A hot box can cause speed problems.

check to make sure nothing is wrong with the system...control panel---performance & maintianance---system-(amke sure the cpu is recognized & the ram is what it should be 4...if damaged u will see a reduction there...or unrecognized cpu type )--hardware tab---hardware device -( see if all the physical devices are working)--sound,video, and game controllers-(expand tree & look at the different goodies ---scan for hardware changes---see if anything changes.
Also check for scheduled tasks--see if any program is updating itself every 5 min, or less.
Do a disk clean-up, and defrag.
Do you have a video card?
A video card somethimes they become unseeded in the pci slot---(rarely)
Check the cpu fan---are the RPMs up to where they should be?
Do a total shutdown of everything... computer, monitor, and modem for a couple of mins... turn on the modem 1st... then computer...etc. Sometimes DSL modem updates itself, requiring a restart. (yes it happened to me, doh.)
The BIOS should catch any cpu changes, or hang-ups.
Are you the ONLY one using the computer? My nephew is a computer germlin.
(I have to keep a close eye on him!)
What size is ur hard drive, and how much space is left?? Mirco$oft OS sucks when the HD is full.

I have four HDs - they are all over 60% empty. I shut the whole thing down last night, disconnected everything, and cleaned out the case. I only sed compressed air, as I know no other way to clean the internal components. I checked all connections, and restarted that bad boy. So far so good. Thanks all!
