I think it got canc'd. www.fas.org still says that they are going to field thme in 2002 and I don't think I've heard anything about them. Proabably all the money got tied up in the JSF like how they scaled back the F-22

Looks like it. The doctrine, I'm assuming, is that the F-22 and the JSF will maintain air dominance not requiring the helicopters to be stealth because the chief thing that shoots them down is dumb fire weapons ie AK's and RPG's.

If they get a new one I would imagine it will be better armored and a little slower. During the Ospreys develpoment it was supposed to have an attack variant like the AC-130 Spectre.
