Brian Cox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Cox_%28physicist%29), doing a talk at TED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TED_%28conference%29), where he explains the Large Hadron Collider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lhc),
why it was built, what it hopes to find, and what he thinks it may find.

The TED talks are simply great, and there’s a great variety of things discussed there.
Their basic idea is “Ideas worth spreading” and the best talks given each year are presented in
their youtube account. (http://www.youtube.com/user/TEDtalksDirector)

Thanks for the post Che. It's a bit easier to understand what they're up to when you have someone speak in lay terms rather than have to read several different articles to get a handle on what they're trying to do.

Cox mentioned that they're hoping to find out what the Higgs particle is. But I can't remember if he said what they will do once they've found out if it's true or not i.e. What the benefits will be. Will the payoff mean we can manipulate particles to generate limitless energy supplies? or limitless food supplies? I'm not sure what the benefit will be.

BTW. Nice to see the reference they made to our man Rutherford. Although I don't know what they meant by 'hated scientists'?
