I'm sure most of the users here tend to be fans of mp3 dexes or other such mass music sources. Not that I don't, but I find those sources to not be very up-to-date or fresh feeling. How many times have I looked through a "Best of the 90s" dex and not remembered what I even had on my hard drive?
To save you from (almost) ever seeing something that you already have, I recommend The Hype Machine. (http://hypem.com) (http://hypem.com) This site takes all of the newest posts from damn near every music blog I've ever heard of, and posts them chronologically, newest first. As a bonus, it titles each post by the free mp3 that is being offered, rather than by whatever crazy title the poster might have given it.
My personal favorite part of the site is that you can "heart" (lame term, I know) any song, artist, person, or band that you want to be constantly updated on. While you do have to register for this feature, it's still a free registration. Once you register, you have the option of seeing the normal post list, or your own personal "hearted" post list. For an example, here is my personal hearted page (http://hypem.com/batmanroad). I admit it doesn't have much yet, I was mostly checking out how it worked.
The only downside I can find is that this site only tends to have mp3s of indie rock, club/dance/trance/techno mixes, singer/songwriter, and rap. It avoids most any mainstream artists (unless it's a remix, or an indie darling who made it big) and it has almost no representation of country, metal, classical, classic rock, or jazz. So if indie/underground isn't your thing, it might be slim pickings. This is mostly a problem of the types of fans who are going to dedicate their lives to making mp3 blogs. But hey, once in awhile a classic gem will pop up, so it's worth a look.
So if you've ever been struck with the desire to hear a song that you'd probably never find out about on your own, or you need something to space out to at 3am, or you just have a crazy desire to compulsively download every free bit of music you can jam into the remaining gigs on your hard drive, this is the website for you. Barring the caveat from the previous paragraph.
