Victory is mine!

I'd like to share my recent good fortune with my fellow Noobsters. I am loath to crow about this to the people around me as it might inspire a wee bit of jealously. So I will celebrate with you all instead.

After a 21 month battle with a regional office of the government I have finally won compensation for damages incurred. My lawyer has already been paid off as of today and I am pleased to announce that I am all of a sudden sitting pretty on a cash sum of $13,833 dollars. Hell yeah! Victory!

It’s actually quite anti-climactic as it happens because I never expected the matter to get resolved in good time. My lawyer called with the news and I said “Oh, that’s great. Let me get a piece of paper and write the amount down.” It’s been so draining that at times the fight didn’t seem worth it. But it was in the end and I am now free to spend the largest single infusion of cash I have ever had in my lifetime.

I don’t think I’ll have this kind of windfall again so my initial rush to buy a gigantic wall-sized TV and all the electronic trimmings to boot was booted. Instead we’re going to get a new furnace (exciting, eh?) and all the credit cards and my student loan will be paid off. That will be an enormous relief. It’s damn tempting to blow it all on something super cool but I’m trying my best to stay smart about it.

I figure when all is said and done I should have roughly $4,000 dollars left over. I would like to spend some of that on a new TV of some sort (not wall-sized) as my HDTV is showing significant wear after four years. I’m just not sure how to get the most bang for the buck. Can anyone tell me where to get good advice on getting the most for your money when it comes to HDTVs? I’m not going to plunk down all the rest of the cash but I do want to get SOMETHING cool in the TV department! Reasonably cool that is.

So that’s my story. I’ve got $13,833 dollars that just dropped into my lap and now I’m finally catching up to the Debt Monster. Next week I feed that beautiful cash to the furnace guy and the twin demons Visa and MasterCard. But it was a nice surprise for this Noobster. Thought I’d share. Victory!:icon_dance:

Pay off the cards and cut them up. Otherwise, you will find yourself in the same place in a couple of years without a large sum of money. Then you are caught again with out a good escape. Or request the limit go down to a small amount and get rid of the other. Debt is the biggest problem in this country at the moment. We have a negative savings rate. Not good. You don't want to be stuck in that shit. I would look at this as a second chance to live life within your means.

Thanks. BTW I've sent $50 bucks in the last 8 weeks to our man in command Majorhan. See "Members help Noobsters" post. Maybe more later - who knows? Hopefully my good luck will hold and the furnace won't go over budget!
