yeahh, c'mon loosers, sorry noobsters..

It took me 4 years to overcome my shyness and post on a content board for the first time. That was back in 2006. I had been a dues-paying member of that board and still was too intimidated by the thought of "putting my ideas out there" and subsequently just watched from the online sidelines for all that time.

It wasn't until I ran into a big computer snafu that I posted for the first time. The members were all familiar to me as online personas but since I was so new as a contributor I was afraid that I would get shot down with rude language. "That's a stupid question" or "You're and idiot" etc. It was that fear of online community rejection that perpetuated my silence all those years. I was a lurker big time and I'm sure that many passive observers who read this post have feelings similar to those I had.

To all you passive observers out there who are reading this: take a chance and do like Grillwalker says. Just dip your toe in the water and post a reply to any thread - no, you won't get it cut off. There is a sense of decorum here mixed with a healthy sense of freedom. I know you'll find it a community that cares enough to answer your questions and comment with intelligence on your contributions. And above all know that it's an OPEN community! It is, really. The doors are not sealed shut - the membership list is not set in stone.

I,too,was like njohnson 747. This is a place where people can seem intimidating. The knowledge at this site, the enthusiasm, and candor is beyond any other place. I enjoy all who contribute their time and talent to this place. I lurked for a while, got over my shyness, then began adding to the fray. Have no fear, just give it your best shot.

Well, worst case scenario is Th3n00b thinks you're funny and asks for a reach-around, but you don't have to disclose your location, so he can only CYBER-stalk you. Seriously though, we're a pretty relaxed bunch of people around here and I can't recall the last time anybody got mad over a post for more than 5 minutes or so.
