Ramps started for me as an exercise in dynamic, ActionScript-driven Flash physics and grew into my first full-fledged, fully-featured game created entirely by my lonesome (though with much help from Keith Peters’ fantastic book, Foundation Actionscript Animation).
The project was a “Featured Game” on the homepage of Newgrounds (the top Flash gaming and animation site on the web) during the week of August 20, 2007 , where it received over 25,000 plays in three days. It was also played 7,500 times on deviantART by August 22.
The game includes 33 different levels with five different unlockable cheat codes based on your score. There are four unique types of obstacles (aside from the lava) and ten types of dynamic in-game elements.
From a programming standpoint, adding levels is as easy as manipulating Actionscript objects in a numerical levels array. The whole game compiles to just shy of 70kb.
To give an insight into my process, the gallery also includes several prototypes created during the production of the game.
