Royal Air Force Jets Shadow Russian Bombers Near British Air Space



LONDON — Two Royal Air Force jets shadowed a Russian military plane that approached British air space, Britain's Ministry of Defense said Tuesday.

The incident occurred Friday, the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin placed strategic bombers back on long-range patrol for the first time since the Soviet breakup.

Britain's defense ministry issued two photographs on its Web site showing one of the two RAF Typhoon F2s flying near the Russian Bear-H military aircraft over the North Atlantic Ocean.

The ministry provided few details about where and why this happened, but the Russian warplane apparently was in international air space and approaching Britain's skies when it was shadowed.

Typhoon F2s are responsible for carrying out the quick-reaction alert policies of British and NATO air defense in Britain, the Ministry of Defense said.

In Russia on Friday, Putin announced that 20 strategic bombers had been sent far over the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic oceans — showing off Moscow's muscular new posture.

Putin really is showing off the 'inferiority complex' he has, being a little man. By acting like they have a big dick to swing Russia is showing how petulant they are. They're reacting more like a spoilt child than a superpower

They were Typhoons, similar to a f-14 (A lil bit different tho) Still, slowing down to propeller speed musta been hard... stall speed and all....

I saw a prop plane from the USAF arsenal of a similar look at the Strategic Air Command Museum in Nebraska. That US bomber was so outdated so quickly with those gigantic propellers and all that it never made it off the ground, literally. That was a 50's era plane in that museum hanger and it never saw air time except in testing. But lemmie tell you it was big as a mofo and could carry a bomb that beats anything Japan saw. Impressive stuff despite the outmoded technology and it left an impression on me. HUGE.

Now the Russkies could not afford to leave anything on the shelf like that so they bring their old gear off the rack even if it's last decade's model. Or a much, much older model.
