Transformers - Then & Now 1980's & 2007
#1 - Optimus Prime

n the upcoming 2007 Transformers film, Optimus Prime will be present as Autobot leader. Prime now transforms into a conventional Peterbilt cab (akin to his Laser Rod incarnation), rather than cab over design of his original Generation 1 body. In a move that has proven rather controversial among some fans, Prime's vehicle mode is now decorated with red flames painted onto a blue body, apparently as a means of incorporating both his classic colors while retaining a realistic color layout to the truck mode.
Although heavily redesigned like the other characters in the film, some classic design elements remain in his robot mode, including a predominantly red torso, primarily blue legs, the presence of wind@ws in his chest, air filters on his shoulders, and a head design influenced by the original, featuring the iconic faceplate and antennae. An internet leaked unfinished television advertisment shows that the faceplate retracts to expose a mouth when Prime speaks. It was publicly announced at San Diego ComicCon 06 that original Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen will return to the role for the film.

#2 - Megatron
http://revproject.com/transformers/megatron.jpghttp://revproject.com/transformers/megatron2.jpg
The apparent explanation for the departure from his gun form is that director Michael Bay does not want to include any sort of size changing in the transformations, with the writers describing it as cheating. The Sector 7 website, part of the Transformers movie advertising campaign, released an email on March 23 that indicates that actor Hugo Weaving has been cast as the voice of Megatron.
He appears very bio-mechanical. Nonetheless, he is still silver, has a helmet, heavily built shoulders and large legs, characteristics that some might say faintly mirror the G1 look. Producer Don Murphy noted in a recent interview that Megatron's head design has been changed, [8] and recently leaked images of Megatron's "Battle Mode" shows him to have a helmet, as the G1 Megatron did: likewise, recently leaked concept art proves that one of Megatron's arms does indeed turn into a cannon, helping keep some semblance to his original G1 form [9]. It is also revealed in the recent third trailer that Megatron has his flail, as seen in the G1 cartoon.

#3 - Bumblebee
http://revproject.com/transformers/bumblebee.jpghttp://revproject.com/transformers/bumblebee2.jpg
Bumblebee will be appearing in the live-action Transformers movie in 2007, returning to his role as the friend of the Autobots' human ally - in this case, Sam Witwicky. When the Decepticons target Sam for the map he possess that shows the location of the life-giving Allspark, Bumblebee is assigned to guard Sam and gets closer to him by posing as a used car which Sam then buys. Recent trailer footage shows him being attacked and subdued by a group of humans, who seem to be operatives of Sector 7.
For the film, Bumblebee will be a 1970s Chevrolet Camaro, but will later be modified into the 2009 preproduction version of the car. Some leaked information indicates that he may not have a vocal role in the film, having had his voice capacitor crushed, and may communicate through his car radio. As a tribute to the original Bumblebee, a yellow Volkswagen Beetle will appear as a cameo in the car shop.

#4 - Starscream
http://revproject.com/transformers/starscream.jpghttp://revproject.com/transformers/starscream2.jpg
In the upcoming live-action movie, screenwriter Alex Kurtzman has made clear that Starscream will not stray from his treacherous roots as he seeks to overthrow Megatron, and engages in bickering arguments with him. As ever, Starscream transforms into a jet — in this case, an F-22 Raptor — but is bulkier than most incarnations due to the lack of mass displacement and the size of the Raptor jet. He maintains a simian body shape with large shoulders and arms and small bird-like feet, although his chest is still formed by the jet's nose. His arms can become large cannons.
Although in keeping with the aesthetic of the movie designs seen this far, the protoform body is more reminiscent of the classic Starscream design, with a chest-cockpit, pectoral intake fans, tailfins on his ankles and triangular shoulder projections and more human-like proportions. Recently an audio clip has been sent to seibertron.com that has the voice of Starscream telling Sector 7 that the Allspark will be in his possession [5]. Another audio clip on Sector 7 has Starscream having a conversation with the mysterious Agent X. In this clip Starscream demands that Agent X gives him the Allspark, before apparently transforming and leaving.

#5 - Jazz
http://revproject.com/transformers/jazz.jpghttp://revproject.com/transformers/jazz2.jpg
Jazz is set to appear in the upcoming live action film directed by Michael Bay. When the movie producers unveiled the final rosters for all the Transformers appearing in the movie, Jazz was described as having a love of style, with a rock-'n-roll type of personality—not unlike his G1 persona. According to Jalopnik, Jazz's alternate mode will be a silver/gray customized hardtop Pontiac Solstice, similar to the weekend racer concept car. This has been confirmed by several leaked photos. Jazz's weapons include a sword and shield, as well as a shoulder-mounted Gatling machine gun.

#6 - Bonecrusher
http://revproject.com/transformers/bonecrusher.jpghttp://revproject.com/transformers/bonecrusher2.jpg
Bonecrusher, as he will appear in the upcoming film, will have this vehicle mode based on the Buffalo armored vehicle, manufactured by Force Protection Inc. The Buffalo is currently in service with the United States Military in Iraq, and has been praised by troops for its effectiveness in defusing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) with its 30-foot-long mechanical "claw." The sighting of a large armored vehicle with an art design with the words "Bonecrusher" painted on the side confirms this. His feet are wheels, and his weapons include blades on his forearms, as well as a grappling hook mounted on his back.
