Off-Duty Police Officer Shoots Daughter By Mistake
The "intruder" Eric Scott shot in his basement turned out to be his curfew-breaking offspring.
Stratford, CT -- An off-duty police officer shot and wounded his 18-year-old daughter after he mistook her for an intruder in their Connecticut home.
Stratford police say the teen apparently snuck out to visit a friend late Monday night and came back into the home through the basement.
Her father, 41-year-old Eric Scott, was awakened by motion sensor lights in his backyard and when he went to investigate found the basement door unlocked. He then saw someone in a basement bathroom and fired his service pistol, hitting his daughter in the knee. Her wounds are not considered life-threatening.
No charges have been filed. Scott is with the New Haven Police Department.
