As n00b points out, Newegg is a great place to buy from I have for many years now. As for Plextor drives they are still rated as one of the top drives you can buy year af6er year. They cant all be 100% but when they work they are the shit ;)

Get a Lite-On they are the best and are real cheap. They have a new 20X for like 40 bucks with light scribe and everything. I still have one that I bought in 2000 and it works great. I install them in all the PC's I build also,, and never had a complaint.

Same here. I've had a 708A, 716A and 740A all die on me, each after about a year--JUST as the warranty ran out. Each time, Plextor told me to pound sand and buy another one.
Screw this company! Most expensive drives, and it's like they are timebombed or something.
NO more Plextor for me, either. I'm quite happy with my Lite-On drives now. And they simply refuse to die.
