Calling all noobsters: I need a cat-freindly remedy (or remedies) for common household spiders. Big time.
My girlfriend and I live in mid-Michigan and the cold, swampy climate here makes for spider heaven in every house - including ours. My workstation is in our cool, dark basement which makes things all the more spideriffic.
We've got a cat so we can't safely bug-bomb the place. And with true Spring weather just days away I am desperately seeking the measures necessary to keep the biblical horde of spiders at bay.
I just called my sister and she said "Hedgeapples. They work." But hedgeapples are out of season. I need something else that will work - and fast. Any suggestions? Please anyone - this oncoming spider infestation will make a swarm of locusts look like a cluster of knats. HELP!

nj, I think you are going to have to bomb. Just take the kittie and the people out of the house for a few hours. I have fish and all I do is throw some towels over the top so nothing can float down in. I have kids that put stuff in their mouths and no problem whatsoever, except for dead bugs laying around. We had a nasty pillbug infestation, but between the stuff I put around the outside of the house and the bombs, killed 'em all

Lady-bugs work well too. I use them when I had an amphid infestation on my "house" plants. They like to eat other little critters, especically baby spiders...mmmmm...mmmmnm...good.

Cloves. Cloves? Where can I buy cloves? Not the cigarettes, the plant.
And if I do bug-bomb the house is there something I should ask for in terms of a guarantee of service regarding pet safety? I don't want my cat getting cancer - or me, either.
Spider-fighter suggestions, please? Please!:icon_dizzy:

Personally, from experience living in the west coast swamplands for years, good ol' Kleen-Flo Brake-Clean does wonders in annihilating spiders and their nests efficiently. Hell, this stuff smells a bit off (Kind of like Raid), but a couple of bursts into the corners and closets that they are primarily inhabiting, and the immediate blast will kill them on the spot, and the residue will kill the rest of them. And there are no nasty effects to the animals, either. My sister's two cats and two dogs didn't show any ill effects after a nasty infestation a couple years ago.
And, if you have any stains on the carpets that you need to remove, the Brake-Clean will remove those, just let it sit on the stain for about 45 seconds, and then scrub it out with a hand cloth.
burn the house down......lets see the fookers escape that ...hah !!

something strange .....at the time i posted the above link there was quite a bit of information on how to get rid or prevent spiders from approaching ones home. Someone prolly edited the site due to lots of "traffic".
anyways, it talked about planting various kinds of herbs/plants around the house.
