I need your help, noobsters. At the moment, I am forced to use my personal laptop computer at work. I am going to try and talk my boss into buying me a desktop computer for the office. I do not need much. I will be running XP, open office and firefox. I don't think that I need alot of machine to do this with. I know I don't need much memory.
Do any of you know of a good deal? Do you have any suggestions that might help in my decision? Thanks in advance for the help. You guys are the best when it comes to tech stuff. I manage a landscaping company. LOL
Thanks

And if you get a bum computer they will send you a brand new one. Just watch out because some them require you to buy a huge warranty

Well just remember if you buy a new PC they come with Vista now, you can't even get XP. I built a nice pc with XP Home for 550 a few months back. I will keep a eye out for a good deal though. They had one the other day on WOOT for 350 that was a good desktop if your not playing badass games.
Well for just a business/work computer id go with a Dell. Dont go directly to the Dell website however, you want to go through one of the many coupon/deal sites that have all the cool links and listings to the real deals.
If that sounds like it would work I could find some of the deals a little later when I get home just let me know,

www.pricewatch.com, price your own system out. www.Newegg.com has deals sometimes. www.MWave.com is pretty good too.
Here ya go.

I bought 2 Dell Laptops at Christmas. I saved over $150 on each one by using this site as opposed to trying to buy the same rig straight from the Dell website.
www.newegg.com is your friend....
Look for one at tigerdirect.com. I get all my stuff at wonderful deals from there

As a landscape tech I would've thought you would need a CAD type program to do some conceptual designing for your clients. If that's the case I would've thought you would've needed a reasonably high end graphics, CPU + memory hungry machine.
Unless you're an old-school landscape artist and are only using your PC for doing the usual admin i.e. WP + accounts in Open Office.
Need to know what you want it for before we can recommend the specs and then where to get the cheapest deals. Most of the team have given you sites, which could help you but, you might need to know what specs/ components you can mix 'n match under the hood. You could get some components cheaper at one site and other components cheaper at another site. If you just want a one stop shop then go with the best recommended site above.

All I need to do is get to the internet and some open office. I do not do any design work. I just need to type proposals and invoices and the lot. Nothing more than what a high school student would need to write papers and such. I figure with XP and 512 MB ram, I can blaze along with no problems.
Thanks again all for the assistance.
