SHERMAN OAKS, February 16, 2007 - Britney Spears is back in the U.S., and she's sporting a brand new look.
Spears was photographed at the valley tattoo shop "Body and Soul" in Sherman Oaks, getting a tattoo reportedly of a pair of red and pink lips on her wrist. But the biggest change to the pop singer's style? She shaved her head bald. Spears could be seen inside the tattoo parlor with her head fully exposed, but as she left the shop she was led by her bodyguard straight to a waiting SUV. Spears had her head covered with a hooded sweatshirt to hide her new noggin.
The sidewalk outside the shop was filled with fans, onlookers and paparazzi. Some fans that were interviewed after Spears departed declared the new look less than flattering.

TORMENTED BRITNEY SPEARS has been driven to the brink amid fears she could lose her kids, it was claimed last night. Sources close to the singer — who bizarrely shaved her head BALD at the weekend — say she is struggling following the breakdown of her marriage to KEVIN FEDERLINE.

And she is terrified her estranged hubby will take sons Sean Preston, one, and five-month-old Jayden James from her.

Lawyers for Kevin, 28, have been portraying Britney as an unfit mother in a bid to help him win custody.

And the 25-year-old star’s erratic behaviour in recent weeks has left pals fearing she is going through an extraordinary public meltdown.

Britney checked into an Antigua rehab clinic last Thursday after hitting rock bottom during a four-day booze bender in New York.

But she stayed less than 24 hours before returning to California, where she briefly visited her sons in Malibu before shaving off her hair, getting tattooed and dashing to a hospital in the early hours and asking for help.

Ex-boyfriend Isaac Cohen told how the Oops I Did It Again star was at breaking point after her agonising marriage break-up last year.

He claimed she was drinking to forget her problems — but was terrified that her children could be taken away.
Cohen said: “Britney’s boys mean everything to her and she worried she might lose them in a custody battle. It was clear she was not over her marriage.

Britney, whose career began as a child star in US TV’s New Mickey Mouse Club, checked herself into rehab after months of hard partying that left friends and family fearing she was spiralling out of control.

She was famously pictured in Los Angeles on a string of drunken nights out with Paris Hilton, wearing no knickers.

At New Year she collapsed in a Las Vegas nightclub after downing champagne and cocktails — but still continued partying with Cohen and a string of dancer pals in LA. Last Friday she was seen sobbing in her limo for ten minutes before she entered Esther’s Haircutting Studio in Tarzana, California, at 6.15pm.

After hairdressers refused her plea to shave off her dark locks, Britney — whose tearstains were visible on her hooded top — grabbed the clippers and did it herself.
Stunned salon owner Esther Tognozzi said: “I tried to talk her out of it, but she said, ‘No I absolutely want it shaved off now.’

“Afterwards she looked in the mirror and said with tears in her eyes, ‘Oh, my God, I shaved it all off. My mom is going to be so upset with me.’” Esther said Britney, who was accompanied by two minders, seemed dazed and distant. She added: “She was just there in body and not really emotionally there.”

Britney, who wore a Star of David from Cohen and whose bared neck revealed a tiny tattoo, left the salon just after 7pm and then drove aimlessly around LA for 40 minutes.

At about 8pm, her car pulled up outside the Body and Soul Tattoo parlour and she rushed inside.

With shaved hair all over her top, she ordered staff to etch a set of pink lips on her wrist and a black, white and pink cross on her lower hip.
Workers said Britney was “screaming and flipping out from the pain”.

Emily Wynne-Hughes, who was in the tattoo shop, said: “After she left, we said to each other, ‘We just saw a huge celebrity on the verge of a nervous breakdown.’
“She basically just said she was tired of having things plugged into her. She didn’t want anybody to touch her.

The owners of the salon where the "Oops" singer shaved her head Friday exclusively tell E! News' Giuliana DePandi that Spears' shorn tresses were saved and may be sold for a good cause.

"She didn't want her hair. We have it here at the salon and we will probably auction it off for charity," said J.T. Tognozzi, who co-owns Esther's Hair Cutting Studio in Tarzana, California, with his wife, Esther.

Tognozzi didn't elaborate on a timetable for any auction or which charity might be the beneficiary of Spears' mane, but he did offer new details of the buzz cut heard 'round the world.

He says that Spears, accompanied by two bodyguards, knocked on the door around 7 p.m. Friday. Spears had never been to the salon before, and the shop was closed for the night, but Esther Tognozzi says that she immediately recognized the singer and let her in.

Spears said she wanted to get her head shaved. Esther Tognozzi sat her down, looked her over and then suggested less drastic alternatives.

"I said, 'Please, let's not have a hormonal moment.' "

But Spears wasn't budging.

"She was on a mission," said Tognozzi. "She had made up her mind that she was shaving her head before she came in."

According to Tognozzi, Spears said she was tired of her hair extensions and wanted to make like Sinead O'Connor. When Tognozzi said she didn't want to be responsible for shaving Spears' hair, the singer then asked if she could do the deed herself.

"She grabbed the shears and just started shaving her head," J.T. Tognozzi said. Asked if anyone tried to intervene, he responded, "No, she wasn't there with any friends. Just a couple of bodyguards who didn't try to stop her."

"She wasn't very talkative, in fact, I kept talking to her about the kids, and I asked about her baby, hoping that I could convince her and talk her out of continuing," added Esther Tognozzi.

She said that Spears didn't appear to be under the influence of anything and remained "emotionless" for the most part, "except for when she said, 'Oh my god, my mom's going to be so upset,' and she had tears in her eyes."

Once Spears put down the clippers, Tognozzi offered to finish the job and dust the hair off.

Spears topped off the image makeover moments later by stopping at a the Body and Soul tattoo parlor in nearby Sherman Oaks to be inked with a black, white and pink cross on her lower hip and red and pink lips on her wrist.

When word got out that Spears was in the house, police were called to control the crowd and help her bodyguards get her into her SUV. A hoodie covered her as she was ushered out of Body and Soul.

Meanwhile, E! Online's Marc Malkin's reports that Spears spent Saturday afternoon poolside at the Mondrian hotel, wearing a short blonde wig.

Spears reportedly flew into L.A. from Miami early Friday, after an aborted attempt at rehab in the Caribbean.

While there has been no official word from Spears' camp on her recent antics, a source tells Malkin that Spears' mother is distraught over the singer's behavior and the family is "in major intervention mode. Her mom is constantly crying. Her family is freaking out."
