philemmons 01-22-07, 06:50 AM :ftw: What total bullshit!!! Describing the 2 NFL head coaches skincolor, REALLY PISSES ME OFF. Using the word, BLACK to describe a person's hertiage is RACIST and DISCRIMATORY on so many f-cking levels. People are so narrow minded they can't see the two men for who they really are. 2 MEN spending thier lives working so very hard toward thier goals.... I still can't believe CNN endorses such a view. When was the last time 2 white NFL coaches were described in such a manner... errrrrr!!!!!!!!!:2up:
"For the first time in the Super Bowl's 41-year history, not one but two black head coaches will be on the sidelines. Lovie Smith became the first black head coach to make it all the way to the NFL's marquee game Sunday when his Chicago Bears won the NFC championship. About four hours later, his pal and mentor, Tony Dungy, joined him there when his Indianapolis Colts took the AFC title...."
pvtpile 01-22-07, 08:44 AM Uh they didn't say porch moneys or any shit like that.
Political correctness is the downfall of mankind by the way
Same here, don't worry !
What's the difference ? the "white" is a man, the "black" as well !
Note that when they talk about other people they don't say "yellow" neither "red" or "grey" !
This is not a big deal no matter how you slice it. What's a big deal is that the Bears & Colts are finally back in the SB after a much too long drought and that's really all that anyone cares about.
silverdooty 01-22-07, 11:59 AM if sharpton and farahkan can use black to describe black men why can't cnn
and we all know if they were interviewed on the subject of these coaches they would be declaring a glorious victory for 'the black man', not these two coaches

It's not about PC. Its about respect. Why not describe them as americans????
This is not a big deal no matter how you slice it.....
I have a zero tolerence for racism, as should all noobsters. It is a big deal my friend.

Sharpton and Farahkan should be educated about racism. Being aware of calling them "black" was the wrong way to give kudos to them. With all the years being in public broadcasting, they should know better.
CNN is weak for following thier example. Think for yourselves...be a leader, not a follower. CNN made a wrong choice right along with Sharpton and Farahkan. CNN should be the ones pointing it out.
If the coaches were interviewed on the subject, and they did declared a glorious victory for 'the black man', then they are degrading themselves, thier culture, and families. I dont introduce myself as a irish-indian... Do you?????:newburn:
Frazier 01-22-07, 03:59 PM I understand the hype they are trying to drum up. Considering that in the NFL's existence, not 1 head coach who was a minority, had ever made it to the Super Bowl. Pretty amazing really, considering that over 85% of the NFL is black.
I look at it as my favorite team (the Bears) who happened to be coached by a black man, and my second favorite team (the Colts) who also happen to be coached by a black man, have made it to the Super Bowl. Racism will only stop when people stop noting the color of people to describe others.

i was actually refferring to sharpton and farakhan and not the coaches. it was very early in the morn and didn't explain myself to well.
on another note, to ignore someone's race, even with good intentions is in fact racist. race ignorant is racist.
should their heritage be considered a factor in their success? as far as i can tell only the individual accomplishing/failing the task can tell us
Political correctness is the downfall of mankind by the way
I thought the downfall of mankind was leaving the toilet seat up?!
mr_wiggles 01-22-07, 06:49 PM Bill said it himself....hes proud to be part of it.

I still don't see the racism, sure it is over hyped but thats what the media does. It's not like Dungy and Luvie are opening any doors that haven't been opened already. They are 2 great coaches with 2 great teams.
njohnson747 01-22-07, 09:22 PM I'm sure both coaches are pleased that the emphasis isn't on one or the other since both men are black. Just like when Halle Berry and Denzel Washington both won Oscars for best actor / actress at the same time. Takes the pressure off of a minor detail when compared to their talent.
Incidentally the NFL has gone to great lengths in the last 10 years to include African-Americans in their coaching ranks. Interviewing at least one black coaching applicant is a REQUIREMENT for every head coaching slot that comes open. The NFL gives swift and severe penalties to those few teams forget to follow this ironclad rule.
I think it's pretty cool that my beloved Bears are in the Super Bowl - no matter what the color of the coaches skin. It's also nice to see Indy's Tony Dungee getting some respect too - he's a hard working great all-around guy and a good coach. He's also working to put his son's tragic suicide of two years ago as much in the past as you can do with such a thing (or so I would imagine).
For too long the NFL had a majority of black players on their team rosters and no black head coaches, period. The fact that two black head coaches have made it to the Super Bowl is no doubt being trumpeted by the NFL as validation of their strict policy toward coaching applicants. Affirmative action is a dirty word these days but that's what the NFL has been doing. These two coaches, however, are ultimately going to be measured by their win/loss record and whether or not they hoist the Lombardi Trophy up on February 4th.
You can't put a color on good.

Doesn't matter if they said that, cause we're taking it back.

FauxReal 01-23-07, 12:12 AM Maybe they should name the race of every person in each newscast at every opportunity. It'll help drive a divide between US citizens and therefore they'll have less time to be angry at anyone else.
philemmons 01-23-07, 12:19 AM Oh damn.... not Fluffy again... anything but the fluff-mister.... He scares me...

moonman 01-23-07, 05:14 PM Personally, I think next year, if there are 2 white coaches, we should celebrate. That will be the 40th time in super bowl history that it happened that way. Make a big deal out of it. Just like we did with Black History month. February, is there a bigger slap in the face than the only month that does not have at least 30 days. ROTFLMAO
Man is the downfall of mankind. Noone else to blame.
