Quarter Inch - RCA

I'm going to shoot myself. It seems simple enough, but apparently I'm doing something wrong and the "expert" at radio shack must also be a bit confused. Here's the deal. I have a quarter inch stereo output on my SoundBlaster Audigy. I have two RCA inputs on my stereo, a right and left channel. The two devices are about 20 feet from each other.

I've installed a 20' shielded quarter inch male to male cord to run the length from my computer to the stereo. On the other end I have a quarter inch to RCA adapter cord which is plugged into the stereo. The red RCA male end is plugged into the red female input on the stereo, and same thing with the white, just like any monkey can be trained to do. It almost sounds sexual but I assure you it is not, because the fucking thing doesn't work. Sex always works, at least for one of the two parties involved. Which is kind of what I have going on with this stereo. No matter how hard I try, I only get one channel through the stereo, one speaker plays while the other doesn't. Damnit!

After experimenting with other devices and cables, I know all inputs/outputs involved work. Unfortunately I have to go from 1/4" to RCA if I'm gonna play my tunes.

Where have I gone wrong? WTF do I do?

My contributions to this forum are awesome aren't they? If I'm not making some random comment, I'm asking questions and pestering. I rock. You don't. If you've actually read all of this then you might actually rock just a little bit. It is not late and I have not been drinking. Goodnight.

:ftw: :yt: :sw:

I tried to make a fancy little ASCII diagram of my setup, but the forum insisted on eating it and puking out a bunch of <hr> tags.

if you switch the white and red so that white is connect to red and red is connected to white, does the sound come out the same speaker? Or does the sounds move to the other speaker?

are you sure your 1/4 in. to RCA adapter is stereo and not mono?

this happened to me years ago when i hooked a radio up to my stereo. i had the exact problem you described including dealing with the Radio Shack dipshits.

have you tried another adapter. i bought a 16 ft. mini stereo to RCA at wall for less than $10 and it came with a screw-on 1/4 in. adapter a couple of months ago.
