As rule of thumb: Small TV (42" or less) go LCD, Large TV's (42" or greater) go Plazma....mainly due to Plazmas superior contrast at high resolutions. ;)

Stick with DLP it looks great at any size. If you want the best HDTV on the market by Rating http://reviews.cnet.com/Pioneer_PDP_5070HD/4505-6482_7-31951817.html?tag=lst

I have a LCD 24 inch HDTV and a 57 rear projection HDTV and nuttin compares with my 57"

I've got a 42" Sony Plasma but the only reason I got this was because it was cheaper at the time. Now that LCD prices have virtually halved I would prefer to have a LCD. Although my plasma has brighter richer colours the resolution of the LCD's I feel is superior. Also, I've been told they have a longer shelf life than Plasma (in general).

I hear all the old horror stories about screen burn-in when I look at plasma TVs and ask the most talkative salespeople straight questions. I've got LCD monitors for my PCs (like most people do) so I guess I'll rely on that experience when I buy the big TV next year.

Plasma's have been changed to stop most burn-in now, But if your a avid gamer stick with LCD or DLP.

Finally convinced my wife that we need to get a 42" LCD, so I'll probably pick it up next summer, when the cashflow is better again.

As said above, your choice really depends on the size of TV that you want to get. My mom sells these TV's for a living, and I've got more knowledge than I care to have about both types, but it'd take ages to list all the minor details and differences.

Oh, and one other question here.... Mounted onto a stand, or wall-hanger?

Man, I don't know about the wall hangers. I know my walls are strong enough to hold it, but the thought of watching it slide down the wall and crashing into the floor makes my left nut twitch BAD. I'd probably have a big foam mattress under the damn thing.

Matress? Just let the cat sleep under the TV. For some reason, my cat has a strange attraction to sleeping underneath the edge of the new (to me at least) 32" flatscreen rear projection I just picked up cheap, so I'm sure he'd sleep under a hanging TV too.
