We brought the Wii home and played it pretty much nonstop for the past 24 hours. At 12:10am, during a slower couch-sitting game of Wii Sports: Bowling, my Nintendo Wii got angry with me.
My buddy Troy reels back to roll his ball as he's done about 300 times tonight suddenly feels the controller slip from his hand. (THANK GOD for the wrist strap right?)
Nope. Wrist strap snaps. The Wiimote flies across the room impaling my 60" rear projection TV square in the upper left corner.
Be warned: Sweaty hands + faulty Wiimote wrist strap = broken ass TV.

I don't know much of the details about rear projection TVs. That might just be the outer glass. You can see a small white smudge from where part of the Wiimote hit the screen.

As for this specific problem, well, it's a defect. (As in an actual defect)
Even before the wii launch, ign had a video up showing what happened when they handed a wiimote to a couple of non-gamers.
They were playing wii sports, and flailing the wiimotes around so much that the strap had broken, and sent the wiimote flying into a wall. And hard enough to dent it.
If Nintendo was going to have non-gamers flailing these things around, and thought to include a strap, then they really should have included a good strap.
Jantheman 11-24-06, 05:40 PM OUCH, that smarted....oh well no worries. New front screen will fix it up. You would think the engineers at Ninetendo would have put a better strap on the Wiimote so you couldn't do what they did. Some bean counter ( accountant ) somewhere probably said that would cost too much, do it with something cheaper. So goes the world.

You could probably make a decent buck selling third-party wii wrist-straps. Make'em with metal cords or something, and only charge a slight profit on it.
Could actually get quite a bit of money just from sheer volume because of people being paranoid about whether or not it'll happen to them...
