http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/headlines/headline1129.gifThe trailer for the new tale of obsession entitled "Number 23" has been released. The story follows Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey (http://www.worstpreviews.com/names.php?name=jim%20carrey)), who stumbles onto a fascinating book titled The Number 23. Soon Walter begins to spot parallels between the book and the real life situations around him. His confusion continues to escalate and he begins to believe that the novel is actually based on his own life. When he discovers the main character’s grisly demise in the book, he truly begins to panic.

The story sounds like the upcoming "Stranger Than Fiction (http://www.worstpreviews.com/review.php?id=68)" film, but the big difference is that "Number 23" is not that funny, and infact is very dark and suspenseful. Check out the trailer, to check out Carrey's dramatic abilities and how ridiculous the patterns are that he finds that make him believe that there is more happening than there really is.

The film is directed by Joel Schumacher (http://www.worstpreviews.com/names.php?name=joel%20schumacher), whose work is always great on the surface, but are forgettable the very next day. Some of his films are "Phone Booth," "Bad Company," "8MM," and two Batman films. In 2000, Schumacher was able to amaze me with his work on "Tigerland," starring Colin Farrell (http://www.worstpreviews.com/names.php?name=colin%20farrell), which turned out to be his break-through performance.

As far as the film, I consider myself a fan of Jim Carrey, and support his decision to not be funny, and at the same time I applaud Schumacher for taking on something new and creative, and getting away from his Batman days. New Line Cinema (http://www.worstpreviews.com/names.php?name=new%20line%20cinema) has scheduled "Number 23" to hit theaters on 2/3/2323. So we might not be able to see this thing for a while, but pretty clever using the number 23 in the release date.
