"Call of Duty 2" looks absolutely badass on the Xbox 360. Amazing. Great first-person shooter game. Incredible graphics and gameplay. The PC version only plays with the keyboard and the PC graphics are piss-poor compared to the stunning realism offered by the 360. That game alone made me want to buy one.
Another dynamite game that I've played on the 360 is "Madden NFL 2007". You won't believe how good it looks and plays until you rent (or buy) it and see for yourself.
Of course I highly recommend renting game titles before you buy them. That way you can give them a test run and see if they are worth the dough.

Well, to start off, tell him to get Gears of War....RIGHT NOW!!! It might be hard to find, but it just launched in Canada and I've been playing it for about 3 hours now. I needed to eat though so I had to shut it down for a bit, and now I see snow everywhere so I have to shovel....it's so hard to do it though when the game is just begging to be played.
Anyways.... so Gears of War #1, then I'd say Call of Duty 3. It's supposed to take what made Call of Duty 2 amazing, and then improved upon it with awsome multiplayer that is a bit of fresh air for the franchise.
If he's into sports games, I'd definitly say NHL 07. It introduces a new feature that allows you to puck handle like in real hockey. I guess it is supposed to be amazing. Tony Hawk 8 just came out, and that as well is supposed to bring a new freshness to the franchise because you can go into a slo-mo thing and pull off your own moves by moving your skaters fee with your analogs.
If he's an RPG fan, there's Enchanted Arms which is a traditional Japanese RPG. The thing is that its either a love it or hate it game. If not that, I'd suggest Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I really enjoyed that when it came out and I still pick it up every now and then when I need to download something off the marketplace because you can really waste some time with that.
If he's an FPS fan, FEAR just came out and I have been enjoying that for a few days. It plays well and scares the shit outta ya. Remind him to buy a pack of undies if he is gonna get that game. Chromehounds is a nice mech game that I have spent quite a bit of time in as well. It's built around Xbox Live though, so I'd only suggest that if he has a Gold account. Prey is also on the 360, but I havn't played it. It looks gorgeouse though.
Last but not least, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter one of the must have games. It's singleplayer is breath-taking, and it's multiplayer is good too, but not as good as it's singleplayer. Tell him to watch out for Rainbow Six: Vegas though, because that game is really shapping up well.

I would also recommend a heapload of marketplace points as well. Xbox 360's marketplace lays host to some of the best gaming goodness I could get my hands on at the time. Classic games from Arcades and new classics such as Geometry Wars accents that place at every turn. Plus they offer expansive content for existing titles, skin packs and avatar sets so they can be different on Xbox Live and they can even download Movies and such to watch on the console, if they see fit.
Another side recommendation and more of a real "on-shelf" recommendation would have to be Dead Rising. Imagine a shopping mall full of mindless zombies. Every new shop in the mall lays host to new potential weapons. From plastic chairs at the food court, toy swords in the toy store, and golf clubs in the sporting outlet, the game lays host to a multitude of sandbox play and gratuitous violence at every turn. The sheer volume of zombies on screen at one time is impressive to me personally. You can kill millions upon millions of these things man. On screen at once, I could have easily counted 100-175 zombies(On an overlook at the food court on the second floor, mind you). Best of all, I believe its not a full price title anymore, since it hit earlier in the year. Simple, fun gameplay makes this a must have for most any 360 fan. The downer? Well....I dont remember this being multiplayer friendly. The good news is it is just as much fun to watch as it is to play.
