Sheik Taj Din al Hilaly held a press conference in June. The following are extracts from Sheik Taj Din Al Hilaly's controversial sermon given last month, as independently translated by an SBS Arabic expert.

“Those atheists, people of the book (Christians and Jews), where will they end up? In Surfers Paradise? On the Gold Coast? Where will they end up? In hell and not part-time, for eternity. They are the worst in God’s creation.”

“When it comes to adultery, it’s 90 percent the woman’s responsibility. Why? Because a woman owns the weapon of seduction. It’s she who takes off her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the streets, God protect us, dallying. It’s she who shortens, raises and lowers. Then, it’s a look, a smile, a conversation, a greeting, a talk, a date, a meeting, a crime, then Long Bay jail. Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years.”

“But when it comes to this disaster, who started it? In his literature, writer al-Rafee says, if I came across a rape crime, I would discipline the man and order that the woman be jailed for life. Why would you do this, Rafee? He said because if she had not left the meat uncovered, the cat wouldn’t have snatched it.”

“If you get a kilo of meat, and you don’t put it in the fridge or in the pot or in the kitchen but you leave it on a plate in the backyard, and then you have a fight with the neighbour because his cats eat the meat, you’re crazy. Isn’t this true?”

“If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street, on the pavement, in a garden, in a park, or in the backyard, without a cover and the cats eat it, then whose fault will it be, the cats, or the uncovered meat’s? The uncovered meat is the disaster. If the meat was covered the cats wouldn’t roam around it. If the meat is inside the fridge, they won’t get it.”

“If the woman is in her boudoir, in her house and if she’s wearing the veil and if she shows modesty, disasters don’t happen.”

“Satan sees women as half his soldiers. You’re my messenger in necessity, Satan tells women you‘re my weapon to bring down any stubborn man. There are men that I fail with. But you’re the best of my weapons.”

“…The woman was behind Satan playing a role when she disobeyed God and went out all dolled up and unveiled and made of herself palatable food that rakes and perverts would race for. She was the reason behind this sin taking place.”

I just don't know.. if I grew up hearing it's the womans fault if you rape her, and such, I might be willing to blow myself up to support such a religion, having heard nothing but that crap all my life. No, I have no idea how to correct their perceptions, but this guy's remarks certainly have a ring of truth for the rest of the Muslim world, don't you think? I mean, considering the state of women's rights in all but the most liberal countries where Muslims are a majority (I'm thinking Egypt, and even there, women aren't anywhere near as equal as in Western countries.)

why dont they send him back to where he came from, they can pretty much practise what they preach over there more effectively. Infact, they fight amongst each other for power and recognition.

the fookin prob is that countries that adopt idiots like these offer no resistance to such comments.

send him back............

Satman, look at the life of Jesus Christ. Look at the life of Muhammed. Why do you lump the two together?

Actually, a lot of Muslim groups in Australia already came out in protest against this diatribe, and the guy apologized, but you know what he really believes.

Its funny up until the late 1980s many people in this country felt this way. If you ask some Christian fundamentalist they will say similar things. I have heard preachers say women that dress "trashy" get what is coming to them. And there are still alot of Americans that believe that way too. They may not say it publically but if you listen to the press there are some that say that. (I know I have heard it in connection with the Duke case) I think now that "a muslim" has said this there will be fewer Americans that will come out and say it because they don't want to be seen as agreeing with them. Its just the press want to demonize every belief (right or wrong) that a cleric comes out and states.

many atrocities have been carried out in the name of Jesus.......why, even Hitler said he was doing God's work.....so I don't see the difference there......

But most societies fought hard against christian fanatism in the last few centuries and was able to seperate Church and state.......

still not happened for Muslims because they are heavily reliant on their religion for survival (madrassa feed the young for free).......might take decades........I consider this the dark ages for Islam......hopefully it will pass and the religion will mordernize......just like others did.......

but for now.....its a pain in the ass !

But hitler and the people who have done EVIL things in the NAME of Jesus haven't done so with his blessing, unlike muslims. My guess is you don't have a very clear understanding on just what makes a Christian. I understand that. It's the churches fault. I accept that. And I try to make it better

I know it's wrong, but it's just SO wrong that it's kinda brilliant. Listen to the man, folks - never ever leave the house, and you won't ever get run over. If you do, it's your fault, 'cause you left the house, fool. Think of the poor driver, and all the temptation you put in his path! I think this guy has a big future in insurance.

The idea that men can't help themselves is what is so grotesque about this argument.

he is an Australian citizen!!

On paper, yes, he could be an Australian citizen.

But as far as his comments are concerned, he knows zilch about other people's cultures. Infact, if he considered himself a true Australian then he wouldnt have made such iron-age style comments about women - even if he meant muslim women living in Australia.

fook, wait a minute..... which western govt would prison a rape victim?

Or is he trying to influence that particular country's laws to accomodate them - muslim men in particular?

he's a piece of turd....he means to tell me that any other woman (non-muslim) is raped then its the woman's fault?

He should just shut the fook up and enjoy the show (hot chiks).....we'll enjoy the show here on earth, he can enjoy his 72 virgins when he "goes" to heaven since the rest of us (infidels) will never get a piece of 72.

I'm always hungry for food.....do you see me raiding McD's or breaking into a supermarket because the food is greatly "exposed".

Fook this shit and fook their radicalism.

Read recently this dude has been up to no good again. This time they may be able to do something about it as he's apparently broken the law by inciting harm against Australian troops. This idiot can't control himself.

If they can't revoke his apparent citizenship for doing something like this then what do you have to do to get rid of turds who are obviously hell bent on screwing with your country

Irrationality and superstition, whether it's Islam now or Christianity hundreds of years ago, they're still just agents of fear and ignorance. It seems silly to split hairs and say this voodoo is good and that voodoo is bad. In the end they're both aspects of the same thing.

This is a bit of a reductio ad absurdum argument. I'm an atheist of many years conviction, so the comparative 'reality' of any religion's claims about the supernatural are irrelevant to me, but the effects in the real world of the beliefs of its adherents are very much my concern. I'm uncomfortably vague on non-Judeo-Christian beliefs, but a lot of what I've read about what the Prophet had to say seems sensible when taken in the context of his times, much like the common sense preached by Moses and Jesus Christ. I'm certainly going to be teaching my kid "treat others as you would have them treat you" (Christianity), visit those who are ill and give to charity (Islam) and at least 8 of the 10 Commandments (Judaism). There's a lot of accreted wisdom in those writings about how man should best live with his fellow man.

On the other hand, if there's a religion (or looney branch of a major religion) out there telling him it's not his fault if he rapes someone, or that homosexuals are evil, or that nudity is intrisically wrong, or that if he blows himself and a bunch of innocent people up he's doing the right thing, they can fuck right off. So all religions, while in my personal view deluded as to the origins of their creeds, are not the same.

This is the best part of that article:

He said the comments were made in a private lesson at Lakemba mosque during Ramadan and were not meant for the general public "and particularly not the general women of our Australian society".

So basically he believes it, but can't back it up.

That would seem to be true of any divinely-revealed information. "God says so." What makes one more "true" than another?
