Computer from hell!

So My computer seems to be playing up again.

I've gone from being able to play Oblivion with reasonably high settings with little to no framerate or speed problems, to playing games like dawn of war on low settings with some massive slow down and general jerkiness.

This probably started a couple of months ago and ive no idea why. My graphics card isn't very old and was bought for Oblivion and I doubt much that its this cos everything seems to be going slower.

Not just games but even simple things like openening firefox takes longer. Am I right in thinking there could be something up with my RAM or am I an idiot.

Its Oblivion. I just got this last week and installed it on my home computer and my laptop. Its a fucking resource hog from hell and can and will do strange shit to your system. On my powerhouse home setup it will cause crashes and freezes and error mssgs on occasions. My lappy runs it no problems at all strange enough, however, when I shut the game off it still gives an error code.

I had read before I bought the game about this problems so it wasnt unexpected.

I'd run a system load test while u sleep and see if it's the system or the game.

You could also uninstall Oblivion and see what that does.

Yeah I tried that and still have problems, and today when I tried to exit a game that had been running stupidly slow I was left with a black screen and it never did return to my desktop.<sigh>

Ill try defragging etc.

keep in mind that there is NOT a single program that will catch all Spyware/Adware and viruses etc. I reccomend a combination of several things, I also highly recommend Spy Bot S&D (search and destroy) and ClamAV those are very reputable apps, and I find they find more stuff that most other things.

^S&D is great but Clam ?? ya need an AV that is "live"

If ya can .. run at least two AV proggies, I run one at me firewall and 2 on all my pooters, never been infected, in fact sasser was fun watching the fooker bounce off

Ill try spybot. But I have done tons of scans already and now everytime I restart my pc its running check disk.

So now when I try and run defrag im told that I can't because a check disk is scheduled, apparently! ARGH!

Do you let chkdsk/autochk complete at start up?? If so and yer still getting the defrag issue drop to a command shell (sorry "prompt" in winblows) and run a chkdsk /f with nowt else running. Once complete restart and the chkdsk at startup SHOULD have gone then the defrag should be ok.

/edit and when I say nowt running I mean disable yer AV scanners and as much else as you can, obviously dont wanna be connected to the virus playground that is the intraw3b while you do it
