boy, do i fucking hate aspen colorado. recently i have had to go back to aspen for work. i'm a carpenter if you didn't know. i live in the roaring fork valley and for the last eight years i've been able to stay out of aspen, workwise. originally we were building second homes for the millionaires, then the multi-millionaires and now the multi-billionaires. yesterday we started framing a monster of a house. 20,000+ square feet. just for comparison a football field is 45,000. do you think 20k would be enough room for you? did i mention the owner is a 50+yr old bachelor. he's never even been married. is this just overkill?? aspen has been doing this for years and it just bugs the shit out of me. aspen is probably one of the best places to go for outdoor beauty and activities but these guys building their second homes aren't here for that. these guys are lucky if they get in one run on the mountains while they are here for xmas. every time i drive through aspen it just pisses me off seeing huge fucking houses that are empty 99% of the time. if your not going to live in it why not build it somewhere else?? so what if you don't have a veiw of the maroon bells, the amount of time you stay here you could've just bought a nice coffee table picture book.

hell i can barely afford to live down valley from aspen so now i'm looking into getting a few extra roommates and getting a place in aspen so i don't have to drive an extra forty minutes to work. j/k, the place actually leaves me feeling drained by the time i get home.

just an example of excess

do you want a condo or a ranch?? (http://aspen.interactiveproperties.com/aspenlandandhomes/results.php?Offset=2080&Prop_Type=Condo%2FTownhouse&)

I was a inpector for 10 years and I have seen some incredible shit being built. One guy, Dr. Head (yes thats his real name and he is a doctor of the Arts) is a 50 something mega millionaire. He is a flaming homo. His multi acre estate resides in the hills of Saratoga California. One of the homes on this estate is converted into a museum showcasing his art collection.

What was our company hired to inspect? The building of the Versai Fountains, in full scale in his backyard. $20 million.

Another guy in Portola Valley California was building his 7th home on the mountain he owns. This one is next to his personal winery which bears his name Fogarty (this isnt his base of income, simply something to have). Old man Fogarty owns over 60 patents ranging from the centrifugal clutch to the device used in angioplasty .

His dog house cost $1 million.

I have seen many homes that cost 20 to 40 million. Crazy stupid.

Kiss old man ass while you are building the place.

Get to be 'buddies' with the coot -- then mention how you are looking for a new place to stay. Work your way into living in the guest house and keeping the place up for him.

Smooth talk your way into bachelor's paradise.

Just leave a can of termites in one of the walls before you finish your dry wall. Then you can sleep good at night knowing that you did a grade A job and the rich bitches get what they deserve and the termites get a good meal.
